Bad Fathers
Episode 8 of Hide begins with Sung-jae escaping to a harbour but Jin-woo catches him. They get into a scuffle and the cops arrive. However, Sung-jae burns the Hwang Tae-soo passport.
Meanwhile, Shin-hwa interrogates Yeon-joo but she stays quiet. Moon-young realises she can be arrested for the illegal dealings she did so Yeon-joo would “free” Sung-jae. She doesn’t mind and tells Shin-hwa to focus on Yeon-joo.
Next door, Baek interrogates Sung-jae who says he went to the airport to catch Tae-soo. His father is his lawyer and turns out, he knows everything about Yeon-joo as she is the one who promised to fund his election. Sung-jae refuses to back down as he claims the 80 billion is his money for cleaning up after Geumshin all the time.
Meanwhile, Yeon-joo makes Moon-young her lawyer and says she will be punished for crossing her. Having gotten back his father, Woo-shik drops the lawsuit against Yeon-joo and even Sung-jae is allowed to go home to lack of evidence.
Jin-woo and Moon-young are frustrated by the turn of events. Jin-woo declares that he will do things his way and it is revealed that he has a tracker put in Sung-jae’s phone. Meanwhile, Myung-hee picks up Bom for Moon-young but tells her she will take her abroad. Moon-young refuses to back down and tells her not to touch Bom.
Elsewhere, Yeon-joo tells Woo-shik that she just transferred the money for safekeeping. He keeps demeaning her as she had an affair with Chairman Choi. He tells her to stay in line and she cows down. She finally takes Choi home from the hospital where she is met by an angry Sung-jae.
He wonders if she betrayed him to get in Woo-shik’s good grace. He gets all in her face and she opens the curtain allowing Bom from across the street to see them. He hides but Bom tells Moon-young who is upset.
Moon-young goes over and confronts them for flaunting their affair while Seong-jae tries to calm her down. Jin-woo shows up right then and makes it worse. Moon-young drags him inside and once Shin-hwa shows up they wonder what the exchange was about. Moon-young figures that Sung-jae still cares for Bomb and that maybe Yeon-joo is after Moon-young.
Meanwhile, Sung-jae plans to find out how Yeon-joo is controlling Woo-shik. Myung-hee also agrees to pretend to be Yeon-joo to help withdraw the money. Poor Cha Woong is not happy with any of it. Sung-jae tells him to help so that no more unsavoury rumours affect his election. He plans to threaten Woo-shik with Chairman Choi to let him leave with the money.
The next morning, Bom worries that her parents are splitting up because of her. Moon-young assures her that she will get to see both her parents. Moon-young then tells her theory to Detective Baek. She may have prosecuted Yeon-joo in the past so she wants revenge. Seems that Yeon-joo and Sung-jae’s plan was to make it seem that Moon-young killed him to get the life insurance payout. But since she kept looking into his death, their plan was ruined.
That doesn’t seem to be the case as there is new trouble afoot at Geumshin. Yeon-joo looks sad as she takes her leave of Chairman Choi. In a state of lucidity, he tells her to find someone good. She tears up as she leaves. At the office, she watches on the CCTV as her father, Ha Jae-pil who is also Choi’s driver enters the house.
Chairman Choi gets an attack and Jae-pil gives him something. Sung-jae who was stalking the place, and Jin-woo who was stalking him get worried and both barge in. However, they are late and Choi dies. It seems that Woo-shik knows what has transpired as he nods at Yeon-joo.
She tells Moon-young to represent Jae-pil and she will finally learn why she is being punished. Confused, Moon-young visits Jae-pil in custody and comes face to face with her own father. A flashback shows Jae-pil hiding from Moon-young when he comes to pick up Chairman Choi. At the end of Hide Episode 8, Yeon-joo is amused before her smile falls.
The Episode Review
7 episodes later we finally get the whole point about the millions of won of loans and debts that Sung-jae had taken before his “death”. Turns out, he wanted to frame his wife, wow. Guess we have most of the answers for the mystery set up at the beginning of the show.
But now we have new questions as well thanks to Hide Episode 8 – what was in the briefcase that Sung-jae stole from Yoon? What is the ace card that Ma Gang had on Yeon-joo and Sung-jae? Why does Woo-shik drop the lawsuit against Yeon-joo and conspire with her to kill his own father? And the biggest question – how is Moon-young’s father and Yeon-joo’s the same person!?
The K-drama definitely has our interest piqued. But they better resolve it all as we are in the last stretch of the show.
